#WhereAreWeWednesday - Hawaii Kai February 25, 2015

by Locations LLC 2/25/2015 1:34:00 PM

The month of February belongs to Hawaii Kai - one of Oahu’s premier communities. Hawaii Kai was largely developed by Henry Kaiser and Kaiser-Aetna around the Maunalua Kuapa (fishpond wall) Pond in the ‘50s. The Koko Marina was dredged around 1959, which transformed the shallow coastal inlet into a marine embayment, and residential tracts and marina channels followed in 1961.

Today, Hawaii Kai is a family-friendly community with easy and convenient access to many services and amenities such as: Costco, Safeway, Sandy Beach, Makapuʻu Lighthouse and Beach, Koko Crater Botanical Garden, the "From Here to Eternity" cove, Hanauma Bay, Sea Life Park, Hawaii Kai Golf Course, restaurants, fine dining such as Roy’s, movie complex, shopping centers, hiking trails, snorkeling, marina access and the H1. Immediately west of Hawaii Kai is the Honolulu neighborhood of Kuliouou and eastward from Hawaii Kai is the Koko Head area. South of Hawaii Kai is Maunalua Bay, and north are the Koʻolau Mountains.

North Shore History

by Locations LLC 2/19/2015 8:18:00 AM

Yes, the North Shore boasts the reputation as the birthplace of big wave riding. But make no mistake, it’s overflowing with history and culture in Pupukea, Waimea Valley, Haleiwa, Kawailoa, and Waialua.

A storied past that’s often had one foot dangling in history and the other one treading on toward the future, remains unchanged. There’s more to the North Shore than surfing. The tangle of smaller, laid back communities steeped in history, also offer a much more relaxed lifestyle than might be found in Honolulu.

#WhereAreWeWednesday North Shore Winner - January 2015

by Locations LLC 2/3/2015 12:14:59 PM

We devoted the month of January to Oahu's North Shore. The seven-mile miracle. The quintessential surfing experience. The mecca of surfing and the big wave rider's playground... but it’s home for many who love the outdoor, adventurous lifestyle the North Shore offers.

We shared four #WhereAreWeWednesday photos:

We asked our readers to tell us where on the North Shore each of the #WhereAreWeWednesday photos were taken every week, and we entered each incorrect answer once and each correct answer twice into our monthly drawing. For the month of January, we are giving away a $30 gift card to the Haleiwa Joe's!

Our lucky January #WhereAreWeWednesday winner is Lynn Kehaulani Lautalo, who answered via Facebook January 21st. Congratulations!

Please email social@locationsllc.com with your address and we will mail you your prize!

North Shore Demographics

by Locations LLC 2/2/2015 9:54:00 AM

Today more than 16,000 people make the North Shore area home and they live on Oahu’s North Shore for a reason…it’s a favorite place to ‘live and play.’

The North Shore offers both residents and visitors alike an adventurous lifestyle especially because it offers some of the world’s most spectacular surfing spots, coupled with a quieter home life.

Residential life focuses on condominiums, beach houses in some of the smaller, idyllic and quiet communities and homes overlooking some of most scenic areas in the world.

At the same time, the North Shore combines rich historic and cultural experiences amid the seclusion and quiet not so readily available in Oahu’s larger centers. And the Pacific Ocean at the back door, offers a most enticing lifestyle.

But who are the residents of the North Shore? How many are married? How much do they make?
